In most cases, fractures heal successfully with appropriate medical care, however, in some patients, despite treatment, the fracture does not heal within the expected time, and we refer to this type of fracture as a nonunion fracture. In general, a fracture is considered a nonunion if it does not heal within 6-9 months. Studies have shown that approximately 5-10% of fractures may result in a nonunion, with the tibia, humerus, talus, and fifth metatarsal being the most common.
Knowing why a fracture does not heal properly is important in determining appropriate treatment. Reasons for a non-union fracture include:
- Infection at the fracture site
- Insufficient blood supply to bones
- Separation of bone ends
- Insufficient surgical stability of the bone
Most patients with nonunion fractures report the following symptoms:
- swelling
- pain
- tenderness
- unstable Limb or joint
- deformity
- unbearable weight
There are generally three types of nonunion fractures: including hypertrophic, atrophic and eutrophic nonunion fractures.
- Hypertrophic nonunion fractures: This is the result of instability of the fixation or metal products used to fix the fracture.
- Atrophic nonunion fractures: This occurs when the blood supply to the end of the bone is very limited or absent or when part of the bone is missing.
- Eutrophic nonunion fracture: This is usually caused by a combination of factors, such as fracture instability, insufficient blood supply to the bone ends, insufficient fixation, or low-grade infection that is not clinically present.
MiraMate PEMF products heal your bones naturally
Traditional treatment of nonunion fractures often involves surgery, but in recent years PEMF therapy has become increasingly popular among physicians as an alternative to healing bones. It is safe, drug-free, and effective, and has been FDA-approved for the treatment of nonunion fractures since 1979. Whether you are looking for pain relief from an acute bone injury or natural healing from a broken bone, the MiraMate PEMF device can relieve your pain and restore your physical health in a safe and non-invasive way.
For acute bone injuries, we recommend Mini Magic. Mini Magic’s coils are flexible for topical treatments such as knees, ankles, wrists, and more. You can easily apply them to the fractured area and the pain will disappear noticeably. If you’re looking for a way to speed up the healing process, Big Magic is an ideal choice. It comes with a PVC pad that is lightweight, easy to clean and waterproof, providing comfort and durability during use. You can wrap it directly on a broken arm or leg and let it help heal you even during sleep. In addition, it is recommended to increase daily intake of vitamins D, C and calcium during treatment. These nutrients stimulate the production of healthy cells to aid the healing process.
